Hopefully people are prepared! Sounds like it could get rough. Now we'll have to listen to months if not years of propaganda linking this storm to global-warming as the cause.

New York City is bracing for a major blizzard that will bring the city to standstill Monday night through Tuesday.

Disruptive snow will reach New York City on Monday, but Monday night through Tuesday is when the blizzard will unfold and unleash heavy and windswept snow.

Ahead of the blizzard, now is the time for residents and motorists to review preparation tips.
By the time the storm winds down, more than a foot of snow will bury the city and its suburbs. Snow totals will even top two feet, mainly north of the city.

That amount of snow alone could bring the city to a standstill, but strong winds will only worsen the situation and severely heighten hazards for residents and travelers. The winds will whip the snow into drifts that could measure several feet high.

Manhattan became a virtual ghost town on Monday evening as officials made an unprecedented move to shut down all public transport and major road links because of the blizzard - but forecasters warn the worst of the ferocious weather is yet to come.

The Metropolitan Transport Agency (MTA) suspended all trains, subways and buses at 11pm, prompting commuters to get out of the city and home before the storm hit. It is the first time snow has caused the Subway to completely close down.

A full travel ban on non-emergency vehicles was also issued on the roads left open in a bid to clear the snow - with a $300 fine for anyone out driving on the roads - meaning all that was left on the streets were a handful of parked cars.

Mayor Bill de Blasio even insisted that people should stay off the sidewalks and remain indoors unless absolutely necessary. He said on Monday that he wanted an 'empty city'.

As the streets emptied, plows and emergency services took to the streets, but the snow is likely to intensify during the night with up to four inches expected to fall every hour.

Snowfall prediction downgraded sharply; travel ban lifted
POSTED: 01/27/15, 6:56 AM EST

The National Weather Service has downgraded its snowfall forecast to 4 to 8 inches, and a travel ban imposed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo was lifted at 7 a.m.

Snowfall of as much as 18 to 24 inches had been predicted in Eastern New York, but totals have been significantly less. The Kingston area had just a couple of inches on the ground this morning.

The worst of the storm hit eastern Long Island and parts of Massachusetts and Maine.

The snowfall is forecast to continue today before tapering off tonight.

A winter weather advisory is in effect until 1 a.m. Wednesday. The winter storm warning that had been issued has been canceled.
