I must correct you, it's silver that's used up in industry applications, and by far more than Gold.

I would assume that the govt would buy up all the gold that is still available to the general public, not raid peoples personal stock piles. This is one reason people should turn their cash into gold, because when it comes down to it paper is paper and gold is gold and this would create quite a bit of leverage when the world economies completely break down.
The research I have done shows that both silver and gold are mostly used for electronics, but gold has a greater post-industrial surplus.

I figured it was coming, after watching all of these places on TV buying up gold. I figured that once that people saw that the dollar would be worthless, and they started investing in Gold then the government would start grabbing it. In fact the government closed down e-gold. I guess because they didn't want little people having gold.
