I remember a documentary of a US radio surveillance site. There were al kinds of satellite dishes pointed everywhere including horizontal to the ground to pick up every signal they could. The site was so sensitive that the person giving the tour to the journalist was driving an old diesel powered car. The spark plugs of a regular gas engine would cause to much interference. Something to consider.

hey beep, just make sure you have a ham radio.

Where can I find 55 gallon barrels to store water. I think the blue plastic ones are OK for potable water. Where can I find them cheaply. Maybe a bulk food seller?

I don't know where you can buy them cheaply, but I bought mine at Emergency Essentials at beprepared.com

I wanted something large and quick, so was willing to spend around $70 for the drum, bung wrench, and siphon at the time. I didn't research, but if you do some, you'll probably be able to find cheaper water drums.

Alternate Lighting

Backup lighting includes candles, lamps, flashlights, batteries, chemical lights like Cyalume or glow sticks, and of course the Glowpak, which requires no bulbs, no batteries, and is rechargeable forever.

Super-bright minimalist LED lantern - “No more fumbling for the power button or trying to light up a match in darkness,” the marketing copy reads. At 8.9 oz, 5 inches tall, “You can hang the Lantern on a tree or tent while camping, hold it on your way through the darkness of your house during a storm, or on your way to explore the wild.”

The Sunbell Solar Lamp and Phone Charger offers a unique all-in-one design. It works as a reading lamp, a ceiling lamp, a flashlight, and as a mobile phone charger.

The rechargeable LiFePO battery requires only 3-4 hours of good sunlight to be fully charged. The dimmer switch lets you choose between 3 levels of LED light intensity and operating time. A 9 foot cable is hidden inside the solar disk, so the panel can be placed outside while the lamp or mobile phone can be stored safely inside a house, hut or tent while charging.
Features & Benefits:

An “all-in-one” solar lantern and cell phone charger
Task light – when the lamp shade serves as a table stand
Ceiling light / lantern – when the lamp head is inserted into the lamp shade
Portable light / neck light – when the light unit and battery pack is detached from the lamp
High quality DC/DC USB adaptor that can be used with any mobile phone with a USB charging cable
1 LiFePO battery, 1.400 mAh / 3.2V with 2.000+ cycles (5-7 years)
3 High quality LEDs with adjustable light from 5 to 50 to 150 lumen, 5.500-6.000 kelvin
SunBOOST3 Technology for Max Powerpoint Tracking / battery protection
1.8 W Solar panel with 3m/9ft cable rolled up in solar disc
UV resistant ABS plastic housing
Splash proof covers for plugs
Shade can be used as a sound amplifier for mobile phone speakers
