Things are good. The 12 x 24 cabin is going up relatively quick. The hard part was getting all the lumber to the site. We made a pontoon boat out of 2 canoes, paddled each load 2 miles, then shouldered the lumber up hill half a mile to the site. This took 100's of trips on the shoulder. And of course lets not forget the windows, a 6000 watt generator, insulation, etc....

I've seen a few bears now, but they have been no bother.

I had fun clearing my build site with my trusty Gransfors Bruks feller.

There is a huge blueberry patch at the build site, service berry trees, cherry trees, blackberries, raspberries.... yum!

The cabin should be complete by mid Sept, well, complete enough to live in anyway. I plan on taking my time on the interior through the winter.

A month without the internet has done wonders for me. I've stopped concerning myself with problems I can do nothing about, and started focusing on problems I can work on to enrich my life.

I am happier, healthier, and far more content.

Popcorn is now being served.

Information Couple Of New Things You Might Like To Have

Good to see things are progressing! Just posted a thread on free energy and thought a couple of the products might be of interest to you.

The SolN1 makes alternative energy easy enough for the masses.

This should be a must for those with cabins, and bug out shelters, your home when there is no power, be the one who has it!

Tutorial and testimony of building a magnetic free energy device that generates free electric energy for home use, to find out how this has been done

Follow this easy set of plans to build your own Magniwork Magnetic Electricity Generator for your home or business. A complete system can be built AND installed easily, and for less than $100!

The Magniwork plans are getting rave reviews. Great business opportunity for those who wish to build and install these systems!

Death to power companies and right now a way to make a living, as this will be one of the most desired pieces of equipment in the world.

No matter where you live this will be more desired than a new car. Put your utility bill back in your pocket.

Free energy!

One or the other, they both seem to be great products that you can create yourself.

Good for you, sounds like adventure of a life time, as isolationist I had privilege living off land in lower Mexico no fancy log cabin only a small dirt floor hut but it was an incredible experience.

Congrat's on the progress!!! Sounds like good ole fashion hard work! It would kick my arse for sure.....one day trimming trees and brush at my place in 90 heat beat me up. lol Need a project like yours to kick my butt into shape!

Can't go wrong with a good Swedish Axe!!! :) Berries sound good! Suspect the berries taste great to a few other larger creatures roaming your area! lol

Agree, I always feel better working hard and staying away from things I can't control on the internet! About to sign off to finish some hand work.

Good Luck

God Bless

Stay Healthy, Smart and Strong!

Peace!

Congrats!! It sounds like you are well on your way to living a much healthier life! I would love to go out in the woods & build my own cabin. The hubby & kids would flip out on me tho.. Keep the updates coming! Do you plan on uploading any pix of the cabin when you are done?

Sounds like a great experience. I love to visit the tropics, but I could never live there. I love the long dismal Canadian winters too much.

The work has been kickin my arse too, to be sure! We've had some near record heat waves up here in the last few months, with temps well over 100.

The berries have drawn in deer from far and wide. I have seen some big females from my (soon to be) kitchen window. We built on the very edge of a ravine, so we can look 50 ft straight down into it to the deer run. Clear shots.

Thanks for the encouragement.

Talk to you again in a month or two.

I planned on uploading pics of my progress today. However, this pc is acting up, and I keep seeing an error when I try to post a link or photo. I will certainly continue to try to post pics whenever I have the chance.

I am building EXACTLY that for heat. We have loads of clay everywhere.

Everything is going great! The rafters are cut n hung. The chipboard is mostly on. Our generator blew up last week, so we have been working with hand tools since. Things are slow and steady. Roofing ply and tyvek are next on the agenda.

Building a house with my wife is a rewarding experience.

The neighbors are mostly moved out of the surrounding cottage country.

The bear hunt began last Wednesday.

Temperatures have ALMOST hit freezing overnight lately.

Beautiful!

Hauling all your materials in a canoe? 4x8 sheets....kind of a pain in the arse I suspect. Voyageurs type cargo canoe? :) Always fun digging wholes for 6x6's in rocky soil, ouch, or are they crete/stone pads?...nice workout! Generator crash and burn stinks... Hand cutting slows things down but builds muscle! Think I'd still want power, forget the virtues. :) Looks like you'll make it in time before the big freeze if you can get the materials you need. Insulation may take a few trips....tyvek wrap, heavy felt paper minimum. Ice fishing for meals, you tired of fish? Steak, Steak, Steak potatoes and beer!!! :) Beautiful piece of property! Work smart, stay strong, place looks great!

Thanks JPM. The canoe hauling was done by building an outrigger out of two canoes with a combined carrying capacity of 1500 lbs. Sometimes we towed a third canoe behind us.

The holes for the 6x6s were not an issue, there is VERY little soil. They are sitting right on the granite. No sona tubes or concrete.

I really enjoy hand cutting and chiseling. Gettin buff. lol!

Insulation will take many trips. The floor is already insulated. After hauling all the lumber on my shoulder, I look forward to some fluffy insulation. No prob.

I will never tire of fish. I have been too busy building to do much fishing. I've only kept 6 in 3 months. Can't wait to get some big pike through the ice this winter.

Steak, potatoes and beer sounds great.

Yea.....wholes and holes, fresh oxygen does help the brain! lol

Nice having granite on the surface. Chisel or level the rock under the posts? Cut post to sit flush on rock? Interesting....

I hear you, chisels and good old hand saws and tools. I worked with an old carpenter one summer in my early 20s. This guy hardly owned an electric tool. Loved to chisel while I did the bulk of the sawing. lol This guy was almost 80yrs old and had a filterless Chesterfield cigarette in his mouth 23 out of 24 hrs a day. He lived to be like 92...go figure.

Ice fishing for pike... sounds fun, and few meals.

Roof on, camo shingles. (can't wait to share pics). House has been wrapped, taped, and the windows installed.

I found a giant stand of standing dead oak and maple. Very dry. 3 bush cords worth in my estimation, probably much much more.

Doing soil samples. Found lots of clay for the rocket mass heater.

Warm and dry start to the fall. Highs of 25, lows of 10 overnight.

The colours are magnificent!

Peace, and good luck with the shutdown/default/civil war thing.
