Law changed so nuclear waste dumps can start coming to your neighborhood & town

Legislation rushed through in the final hours of parliament allows local planning laws to be bypassed, seriously alarming anti-nuclear campaigners. Nuclear waste dumps can be imposed on local communities without their support under a new law rushed through in the final hours of parliament. Under the latest rules, the long search for a place to store Britain’s stockpile of 50 years’ worth of the most radioactive waste from power stations, weapons and medical use can be ended by bypassing local planning.

2007 - David Cameron on nuclear waste - not safety of people.

Ennerdale: A Site for Nuclear Waste? - A video which explains the Ecology and Geology of Ennerdale, part of the Lake District National park (UK), and the impact of siting a Radioactive Nuclear Waste Facility on the Environment.

Absurd Nuclear Waste Storage Problem: Arnie Gundersen - Fairewinds' Arnie Gundersen and CCTV's Margaret Harrington discuss long term storage of nuclear waste in the US and throughout the world.

There simply is no sure solution to keep this material out of the biosphere for hundreds of thousands of years. Gundersen notes that nuclear advocates claim it is possible to store nuclear waste forever, while at the same time claiming that no technology exists to store electricity generated from solar or wind overnight! Gundersen notes that it is much simpler to store electricity overnight than to guarantee safe nuclear storage for longer than the human race has existed.

Italy wants to ship USA 20,000 TONS of their nukewaste

2008 - Italy wants to ship 20,000 TONS of their radioactive waste to the USA. There is still no safe technology to store radioactive waste safely. Most of it comes from nuclear power plants. Bush administration pushing for new nukes in USA too, which will make nuclear waste that we can't store rightly.

May 2014 - People4people - Govt Halts Fee For Non-Existent Nuke Waste Site After 30 Years & $43 Bn Collected - The US Department of Energy will no longer collect a small electricity fee from the bills of nuclear energy customers which was originally intended to fund the construction and operation of a nuclear waste dump that was never built.

The charge, which will no longer be collected past Friday, was first instituted in 1983 with the aim of constructing a facility capable of disposing of what is now almost 70,000 metric tons of highly radioactive spent fuel. The waste is spread throughout nuclear reactors across the US. The government collected $750 million from the charge each year, totaling $43 billion. It remains to be seen what Washington plans to do with that money.

Aug. 2013 - Lake Huron To Be Nuclear Waste Dump? - Lake Huron the peoples water supply, may become a nuclear waste dump, in spite of the fact that it is a huge source of water for the country. We look at the mind-boggling story with Lissette Padilla and Mark Sovel on the Lip News.

Three Mile Island to Fukushima Writing the Nuclear Meltdown Playbook 3/27/2015

People today who are familiar with social media think that TMI means “Too Much Information”. But to me, and anyone listening to the news in 1979, TMI will always represent the disaster at Three Mile Island, when the public received too little information, not too much.

At the time of the nuclear disaster at TMI, there were plans to build more than 200 nuclear plants in the US, with some projections topping 1,000. Today, less than 100 nuclear plants are operating in the US. During the 1970’s, the total amount invested in those early plants easily exceeded one trillion dollars. If the public became fearful of nuclear power, then the nuclear industry, investors, and banks that had loaned money would face huge losses, so the nuclear industry and nuclear regulators tried desperately to minimize the significance of what was happening at the crippled reactor.
