"An hour on bicycle gives your house enough power for 24 hours"

Imagine that your daily exercise could also power your home. This will be a reality for 10,000 families across India when Manoj Bhargava, founder of 5-Hour Energy, releases his stationary bikes in early 2016.

These bicycles, when peddeled for an hour, can power a home, including standard appliances and electronics, for 24 hours. Bhargava was featured in a recent documentary called "Billions in Change" that highlighted his Invention Shop, the place where new cutting edge technology is created by his company.

Bhargava spent years living as a monk in India after becoming bored with his life as a student at Princeton. His company has done so well that he is now focusing his billions and swath of creativity into world changing technology.

This bike could definitely make life more easy for the 3 billion people that don't have access to consistent electricity. Link below shows it is in action.

Although the basic idea of attaching a generator to exercise equipment is many decades old, the press started lavishing attention on this concept four years ago, after a Hong Kong gym called California Fitness rigged 18 exercise machines to charge a battery and power fluorescent lights.

Since then, three companies in the United States have been working hard to market the technology, each taking a slightly different approach.

In 2007, Hudson Harr, then a 21-year-old graduate of the University of Florida with degrees in electrical and mechanical engineering, spent all the money he had amassing a collection of used elliptical machines and electrical parts.

Transforming his mother's house into his laboratory, he began tearing the equipment apart. What he found is that some elliptical models already had small DC generators inside. These power the monitoring console and also serve to increase the amount of resistance the user feels when exercising.

That's because the current generated creates a magnetic force that opposes the motion that creates this current. By adjusting the amount of current created, the user can vary the resistance he or she feels.

Can light affect your health? In the interview included below, Dr. Alexander Wunsch, a world-class expert on photobiology, shares the hidden dangers of light-emitting diode (LED) lighting that most people are completely unaware of. In fact, this could potentially be one of the most important video interviews I’ve ever done, as LED’s have enormous impacts — not only for preventing blindness as you age, but LED’s are also a pervasive hidden risk factor for sabotaging your health.

Largely as a result of energy efficiency initiatives, there’s been a major transition to using LED as a primary indoor light source. In this regard, it worked like a charm, reducing energy requirements by as much as 95 percent compared to incandescent thermal analog sources of lighting. However, the heat generated by incandescent light bulbs (which is infrared radiation) is actually beneficial to your health, and hence worth the extra cost, while there are major downsides to LEDs that are not yet fully appreciated.

LED lighting may actually be one of the most detrimental non-native EMF radiation sources you’re exposed to on a daily basis, which can have very serious long-term ramifications. Ongoing exposure can lead to age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is the leading cause of blindness in the United States and elsewhere. Other health problems rooted in mitochondrial dysfunction may also be exacerbated, and these run the gamut from metabolic disorder to cancer.
