Garbage...why isn't anyone concerned?

In the US, over 50% of trash (that's 1000 pounds per year, per American citizen) sits in landfills waiting to decompose...or not decompose. In this episode of Fw:Thinking, Jonathan Strickland explores the future of environmental science and some creative ideas that aim to solve our problems with pollution and waste management.

Bridgeton Landfill Owner To Pay Almost $7 Million To Neighboring Homeowner
s

The owner of the Bridgeton Landfill has agreed to pay almost $6.9 million to about 400 nearby homeowners who had joined a suit contending that the landfill’s odors had damaged their property values.

A federal judge in St. Louis County gave initial approval Thursday to the settlement, which could be divided up among the homeowners as soon as this fall, their lawyers said.

The individual payments will vary, the lawyers said, depending on how close each of the 400 homes is to the landfill and how long the homeowners had resided there. Those eligible for settlement money must have been living in their homes between November 2010 and December 2013.

Where is most of the electronic waste going?

World Biggest Garbage Dump

The world biggest garbage dump is a floating one and has twice the size of the USA

What are governments doing about it?

Building more weapons, and creating more waste. Waste is like nuclear power...no one has really found a way to solve the problem now that it is at a point of no return. Only thing governments are concerned about is generating more money to feed its war machines.

Concerns about people, food, and the environment continue to shine through the actions and words of world leaders....and the people continue to show what the results are.

Has there been anything good yet?

Waiting for truth.

Thumbs Down Obama Aid Ravages Third World Farmers

July 22, 2014

The only thing American tax dollars for aid does is destroy! Is there some place in history that someone can find that American tax dollars really did something "GOOD" for the people an nation they went too?

Tax dollars are only funding corporations, wars, and big pharma...not people.

Words and actions continue to reveal the true enemies of the world citizens, many who get paid by them to suppress, murder, and bomb the world for profits.

Government programs implemented to help everyone except the people are creating millionaires and helping the number of homeless and jobless to grow.

What has been the contribution to farmers with the help of the Obama administration under the United Nations land grab? Words and actions of a man that American taxpayers support and send on vacation, that they don't really know, continue to bring the whole world down.

http://www.counterpunch.org/2014/07/21/o...ld-farmers

When will the truth about the undocumented president who has made history in the US finally be told?

How many more decisions that effect the American people in a negative way will be made before the call for proof of citizenship, that has never been proven finally is demanded?

A woman who claims to be the half sister of Obama says Americans have been punked, and the puppet in the White House is not who many think he is. Is this the reason for the secrecy behind all the school records, the deaths of the gay men that had a relationship with Obama, and the lack of birth history for his children.

Who is the man who has pulled off the greatest "got you" on Americans?

When the truth is finally told...the government and what used to be the US will collapse.

Words and actions of Obama now show the fear of the truth is near, and whatever can be done to hold it back is being done!

Sad Tonga Reveals Greed & Corruption Of The White Man They Trusted Who Stole Their Money
1

August 18, 2014

Greed, shown by words and actions continues to reveal the faces and names of those who clearly aren't on the same side of the "Red Line" of the majority.

Jesse Bogdonoff (born April 1, 1955), was a Bank of America financial advisor to the government of Tonga and court jester of Taufa'ahau Tupou IV, the king of Tonga. He was embroiled in a financial scandal.

Bogdonoff made headlines in 2001 and 2002 after being accused of mismanaging millions of dollars from the nation of Tonga. He had been the Tongan government's financial advisor since 1994, claiming to have made the government millions in the rising stock markets of the booming 1990s.

Bogdonoff managed the Tonga Trust Fund after it had been funded by the Tongan government in 1986 in a scheme in which...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Bogdonoff

King, Tāufaʻāhau Tupou IV, and his government made some problematic economic decisions and were accused of wasting millions of dollars in poor investments.

The problems have mostly been driven by attempts to increase national revenue through a variety of schemes: considering making Tonga a nuclear waste disposal site (an idea floated in the mid 1990s by the current crown prince); selling Tongan Protected Persons Passports (which eventually forced Tonga to naturalise the purchasers, sparking ethnicity-based concerns within Tonga); registering foreign ships

(which proved to be engaged in illegal activities, including shipments for al-Qaeda);

claiming geo-orbital satellite slots (the revenue from which seems to belong to the Princess Royal, not the state); holding a long-term charter on an unusable Boeing 757 that was sidelined in Auckland Airport, leading to the collapse of Royal Tongan Airlines; building an airport hotel and potential casino with an Interpol-accused criminal; and approving a factory for exporting cigarettes to China (against the advice of Tongan medical officials, and decades of health promotion messaging).

The king proved vulnerable to speculators with big promises and lost reportedly US$26 million to Jesse Bogdonoff, a financial adviser who called himself the king's Court Jester.

The police imprisoned pro-democracy leaders, and the government repeatedly confiscated the newspaper The Tongan Times (printed in New Zealand and sold in Tonga) because the editor had been vocally critical of the king's mistakes.

Notably, the Keleʻa, produced specifically to critique the government and printed in Tonga by pro-democracy leader ʻAkilisi Pōhiva, was not banned during that time. In mid-2003 the government passed a radical constitutional amendment to "Tonganize" the press, by licensing and limiting freedom of the press, so as to protect the image of the monarchy.

The amendment was defended by the government and by royalists on the basis of traditional cultural values.

Licensure criteria include 80% ownership by Tongans living in the country.

As of February 2004, those papers denied licenses under the new act included the Taimi ʻo Tonga (Tongan Times), the Keleʻa, and the Matangi Tonga—while those permitted licenses were uniformly church-based or pro-government.

The bill was opposed in the form of a several-thousand-strong protest march in the capital, a call by the Tuʻi Pelehake (a prince, nephew of the king and elected member of parliament) for Australia and other nations to pressure the Tongan government to democratise the electoral system, and a legal writ calling for a judicial investigation of the bill.

The latter was supported by some 160 signatures, including seven of the nine elected, "People's Representatives".

The then Crown Prince Tupoutoʻa and Pilolevu, the Princess Royal, remained generally silent on the issue. In total, the changes threatened to destabilise the polity, fragment support for the status quo, and place further pressure on the monarchy.

In 2005, the government spent several weeks negotiating with striking civil-service workers before reaching a settlement. The civil unrest that ensued was not limited to Tonga; protests outside the King's New Zealand residence made headlines, too. A constitutional commission is currently (2005–06) studying proposals to update the constitution.

Prime Minister Prince ʻAhoʻeitu ʻUnuakiʻotonga Tukuʻaho (Lavaka Ata ʻUlukālala) (now King Tupou VI) resigned suddenly on 11 February 2006, and...

The Coca-Cola Case (2010) South-american workers who try to organize are murdered.

Lawyers and labor-rights activists battle Coke over violations of international laws. A legal thriller. You will never look at Coke the same.

FRONTLINE/World Fellows Rob Harris and Tovin Lapan traveled to Colombia in August 2005 to investigate charges that the Coca-Cola Company was involved in the violent repression of a union at several of its bottling plants. The soft drink company strenuously denies the allegations of union-busting and murder of union leaders. But there is growing pressure on the Atlanta, Georgia-based multinational from shareholders and U.S. colleges boycotting Coke to approve a full-scale, independent investigation of the charges. Harris and Lapan journeyed through a country rent asunder by political violence, managing to interview all the parties involved in the Coke controversy. Watch their investigation unfold in five video chapters, as they reveal what they learned.

Thomson Safaris Sued Over Maasai Land Near Serengeti
0

Thomson Safaris, a Massachusetts company that runs the luxury Enashiva tourist camp near the Serengeti wildlife park in Tanzania, has been sued over 10,000 acres of land that the company allegedly acquired illegally from Maasai tribes. Title to the 10,000 acre parcel of land known as Sukenya Farm was originally given to Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL) in 1984. For two decades, TBL only used a fraction of the land, leaving the Maasai to continue their ancestral traditions of grazing cattle without hindrance.

In 2006, Thomson says it bought the land from TBL “in an open bidding process” and that it has since collaborated closely with the council of the neighboring village of Soit Sambu to create a “model for community development, conservation, and responsible tourism.” The land was named Enashiva (which is the Maasai word for ‘happiness’) was turned into a private nature reserve to house tourists who pay $5,000 and up for short visits to Tanzania.

Shell Pays Niger Delta Community $84 Million To Settle Pollution Claims
0
0
The Bodo community in the Niger delta will get £55 million ($84 million) to settle claims of environmental pollution by the Nigerian subsidiary of Shell, the Anglo-Dutch oil giant. Despite the relatively large settlement, many other pollution claims by Nigerian communities affected by Shell remain unresolved. The delta region, where the Niger river meets the Atlantic Ocean, has long attracted major oil companies since the discovery of major petroleum deposits in 1956.

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC) is one among several companies that include Agip of Italy, Chevron and ExxonMobil from the U.S., and Total from France that have invested heavily in oil exploration in the region. While these companies help Nigeria produce some two million barrels of oil a day, experts estimate that some 11 million gallons a year are spilled in local communities every year – more than the famous Exxon Valdez spill in 1989 in the coastal waters off Alaska.

Shell companies in Nigeria: Over 50 years of operations
0

Shell companies in Nigeria generate billions of dollars of income for the government, create jobs and provide energy for the country. They also spend millions of dollars a year on community development. In the Niger Delta, where most of Nigerias oil is produced, poverty and violence are serious problems, making it one of the most difficult places where Shell companies do business.

Nigeria has been ruled by the military as soon as Britain handed it back and the oil is 95% of their exported putting Nigeria as 12th largest producer in the world. So why are there hungry people and where is the community development? Living in Nigeria

Looting Nigeria (2000): The unaccounted-for billions in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) reveal government corruption on a massive scale. This film examines corruption on a similar scale by the government of General Sani Abacha, who stole money from the national treasury and had it laundered in London bank.
