Thought I would come back and point out the tulip bubble has popped... just like I predicted it would.

Whoever had them, I hope you got out above $1000... because it's NEVER going anywhere near that level again.

I hope you learned your lesson.

Until there is a uniform system, it will fail. Interesting experiment.

They are over $600 on the other exchanges. The only reason they are plummeting on MTGox is because they won't allow anyone to take out their bitcoins right now.

I speculated, made money, bought pms and many other things and now I'm done. Was a fun ride but too "NSA'y" for me.

I am not afraid.

If you're a gambler, and believe they will fix the problem instead of close, suspect now would be the time to buy. Double triple your $$$ or lose it all.

Fixing the problems

On Monday, Mt. Gox said it is continuing to implement a solution to the technical issue, known as “transaction malleability,” that will prevent any fraudulent exploitation of bitcoin transaction records.

It promised withdrawals would resume soon, and an update “by Thursday at the latest.” None was posted at time of writing.

The situation has led to speculation on online forums that Mt. Gox will collapse.

The fears have been reflected in the value of the bitcoin trading on the exchange. It touched a low of $134 on Thursday before recovering to around $180, far below around $600 on other exchanges, as cited by CoinDesk.com.

The protesters said Mt. Gox has refused to tell them whether it has all the bitcoins it’s supposed to have.

“It does seem very clear that there needs to be more regulation of the bitcoin exchanges,” said Aaron, “at least with respect to protecting people’s funds and having transparency and ensuring that there’s no insider trading.”

Why taking the lowest ( and currently stopped, glitching ) exchange when you can take the highest ?
http://www.bitcoinity.org/markets/localbitcoins/USD : 663 $.
I guess we all know why ... The only thing i am wondering is if you are actually acting like that in your everyday life or just on forums...

FYI : this is the weighted price here : http://www.coindesk.com/ Takes all btc exchanges price into consideration. They recently remove MtHoax for the specific reason that the exchange cannot be trusted. They pulled that scheme twice already, and twice with stupid excuses. People will pull their money out of it as soon as they can and mthoax will eventually go to zero. May be they should start thinking about going back to trading magic cards...

Quote:Winklevoss Twins Launch 'Winkdex' For Bitcoin Pricing

Comment Now Follow CommentsTyler and Cameron Winklevoss have become such prominent advocates of Bitcoin that they have successfully overcome the previously automatic association of their names with Facebook’s controversial founding. Now they’re taking their rebranding exercise to a whole new level with ‘Winkdex,‘ an index for Bitcoin price information.Described in a press release as “a blended price index that is designed to reflect the true price of bitcoins,” it’s the index… or rather, Winkdex, that would be used to price the value of the bitcoins held in the exchange-traded fund for which the New York-based twins are seeking the SEC’s blessing. Its price is based on the three “qualified Bitcoin Exchanges” that see the highest volume of Bitcoin trading in any two-hour period. “Qualified exchanges” would appear to exclude any exchange based in China, despite the popularity of Bitcoin there.

I am not afraid.

LOL! Indeed.

As of this moment, The BTC I bought at $80 were still a better investment than the Au I bought at $18. (even if it WAS at $138 USD, which it is not [I use cavirtex.com which lists the low today at $650 CAD])

I remember when GOX crashed down to $60, so many people here jumped all over BTC holders, LOLing, name calling, and the like. ...Then BTC went north of $1200.

This could be the end of BTC. Could be. But I will continue to hold mine, and wait till the dust at GOX settles. I've already made a ton of fiat off my previous BTCs, and you could have too.

...Just sayin'

Mcetcher, I respect you tremendously. While I am no opponent of btc, you fail tomention the enormous amount of electricity mining consumes. Just wanted to point that out. If the calculations/hashes were folding proteins or doing some other computing instead of just guessing id feel a lot better about it.

I am not afraid.

Could not have put it better than you did Mc.
I have been paying my mortgage with btc since 6 month now, and stocking Pms in the house with the extra that i made ( especially during those kind of crashes... ) Best setup ever. In the meantime... haters have to hate. Lost cause in my opinion.
