IDLE NO MORE
not many people talking about the mass Idle No More movement happening in Canada. These people are rising in the name of indigenous sovereignty and the protection of our water and air. This to me says that the US media is doing a good job keeping it out of the papers. This movement is gaining massive worldwide support, and is growing larger than our Occupy movement. Here is the latest article I managed to find:

RE: IDLE NO MORE
Awesome some real news in here, yeah now that is what I am talking about. I hope those Indians whoop some major backside. Now if we could get all of the American Indians in a movement to get things back to where they should be.

I agree, and here is the latest news on Idle No More and even better, something we can actually do to help: Friday, Jan 11th 2012 is going to be the Idle No More "Global Day of Action". This is because the media is working hard to keep this movement out of the news. On Jan 11th please post fliers, organize a flash mob (peaceful of course), do anything you can to raise awareness about the movement. They are also putting out word online so if you have a Facebook or Twitter or are familiar with "hash tagging", send viral texts or chain emails to friends with the hash tag #J11 Anything that we can do to spread even just awareness that this movement is going on will bring us closer to mass consciousness. Here is the link to the actual article. http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2013/01/07-3 All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing. |

http://www.commondreams.org/view/2013/01/03-11 also here is the link to the official website of Idle No More: http://idlenomore.ca/ videos are starting to get more popular and easy to find on youtube as well, check that out. Also, I can't help but point out the interesting fact that this movement has been started by four women. All that is necessary for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do nothing. |

RE: IDLE NO MORE
here is an article that I dug up showing some US direct action in solidarity with the Idle No More movement. These were tree sitters in Texas who are working to directly interfere with Keystone XL. Good to see that some people in the US still remember that direct action is probably the most effective form of protest. In New England, tree sitting doesn't go over as well, most trees aren't quite tall enough to evade the cherry picker.

RE: IDLE NO MORE
the Idle No More day of action is today and was very successful in raising awareness of the movement in Canada. Check out the massive amount of support that this movement is gaining. It is amazing to me how many other movements could potentially blend with this and create something much larger. Not to mention the significant way in which they are protesting through mostly dance and drum. I think a lot of people forget that dance can be traced back to the most ancient forms of protest and prayer from many different cultures. What may seem like "another Occupy" movement is actually incorporating something much deeper than fighting for comfort within the prison, but rather the destruction of the prison itself. Ishmael would be proud of Canadians today.

different faces to Idle No More from both sides of the border. This is for anyone who thinks that this is a Canadian movement that doesn't involve American issues, and that it is not happening directly because of our pipeline.

I have love of nature, and have been active here in Canada protecting our resources from corporate interests for quite some time. I watched as they quietly repealed the Canadian Navigable Waterways Act with a rider tacked on to the 2009 (pass this bailout or the economy dies) budget. Which of course paved the way for Bill c-145... Of the 4 "idle no more" actions I've attended, by far the most fun was had when I helped a couple of friends of mine set up a bumpin' sound system unannounced, in the middle of downtown Hamilton during an art festival. Cue the war drums! We took over the street and danced the night away! "Don't gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver or gold" -Bob Marley |

Always feeling like the only time I make progress is when "preaching to the choir", people already involved. How do we get the public interested in the bigger picture? We need to re-frame the argument. Many believe this is about aboriginal rights, and does not concern them. Truth be told, this movement has little to do with Aboriginal rights, and much more to do with the protection of (previously) free water and land. Canada holds over 90% of the world's fresh water. ...but only because the majority of it had been protected under the Canadian Navigable Waterways act. The act was repealed in 2009, and current legislation (c-145) is turning the screw. Americans need to understand that this is not about native rights, but rather about protecting their access to the wold's largest free non-corporatized watershed. It is only painted as a native issue by the MSM to further demonize indigenous communities. Try to stress that. Not that it will make much of a difference: FOOOOOTBAALLLLLL!!!!! LOL! This is what happens when you make a stand for mother Earth in Canada, but still we stand! "Don't gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver or gold" -Bob Marley |
