CANADIANS MAKE A RACKET OVER MYSTERIOUS 'WINDSOR HUM'?!

Last month, Bob Dechert, a senior aide to Canada's foreign minister, was dispatched to Detroit with an important diplomatic mission: To stop a highly annoying noise. The so-called Windsor hum, described as a low-frequency rumbling sound, has rattled windows and knocked objects off shelves in this border community just across the Detroit River from the Motor City. Locals have said it sounds like a large diesel truck idling, a loud boom box or the bass vocals of Barry White. Windsor residents have blamed the hum for causing illness, whipping dogs into frenzies, keeping cats housebound and sending goldfish to the surface in backyard ponds. Many have resorted to switching on their furnace fan all season to drown out the noise. Even weirder, Americans can't seem to hear it. Canadians find that suspicious—especially since their research suggests the hum is coming from the Yankees' side—and accuse U.S. officials of staying silent over the noise.

"The government of Canada takes this issue seriously," Mr. Dechert said after his recent fact-finding trip, which included a visit to a heavily industrialized area on the American side of the river that some Canadian scientists believe is to blame for the hum. Unexplained noises have tormented city dwellers for centuries. Residents west of Green Bay, Wis., have been trying to identify an occasional loud boom that they say sounds like a cannon blast—geologists have said earthquakes made the noise. Locals in upstate New York and other places have described similar episodes. But few such cases have become international diplomatic incidents. After three months of seismic studies conducted by Canada's natural resources department, scientists said the noise was likely coming from Zug Island, a nearly 600-acre man-made island on the Michigan side of the Detroit River. The coal-blackened industrial zone is dominated by steel mills, including facilities operated by U.S. Steel Corp. and others whose blast furnaces belch out steam and flames. The area is off-limits to the general public and surrounded by wire fences, with the only access via a guarded gate. A spokeswoman for U.S. Steel didn't respond to requests for comment. The sound has been plaguing Windsor residents on and off for two years. Last May, a particularly loud eruption shook Windsor resident David Robins as he watched the National Basketball Association playoffs. The room began to vibrate with a loud throbbing noise. Mr. Robins hit mute, fearing he had gone overboard on volume. But the noise persisted. Stepping outside, Mr. Robins said he found the "entire neighborhood pulsating." "To be honest, I was scared," he said.

Hundreds of other sleep-deprived locals have demanded action from politicians in Windsor and Ottawa. Locals blamed earthquakes, local salt mines, an underground river and wind turbines in the past. But Canada's seismic study last summer narrowed the likely source down to approximately 250 acres in the vicinity of Zug Island. American officials say they aren't so sure. "It may not be actually emanating from Michigan," said Hansen Clarke, the U.S. Representative for the East Detroit congressional district that includes Zug. Michael D. Bowdler, the mayor of River Rouge, Michigan, the municipality with authority over Zug, said his cash-strapped government doesn't have funds to investigate further. Mr. Bowdler suggests the city of Windsor pay for a survey that could isolate the noise to its exact location. American officials contend there haven't been complaints on the U.S. side of the border. Michigan's Department of Environmental Quality looked last year at whether the companies at Zug started up any new machinery in the past two years that might be causing the noise and found nothing. "The only place I am hearing noise from is Canada—from politicians complaining," Mr. Bowdler said. Mr. Dechert, Canada's parliamentary secretary to the minister of foreign affairs, concedes the source may not be Zug Island, given there are a "number of operations" in the vicinity that could be responsible. But he wants his U.S. counterparts to investigate further to help quiet down the border ruckus. "There is definitely something going on that's affecting people on the Canadian side of the river," he said. Canadian diplomats formally raised the issue with the U.S. Department of State last September. They took up the cause again at a meeting on Thursday. A State Department spokesman declined to comment on the meeting. "We do sympathize with the plight of those affected but, unfortunately, the federal government doesn't have regulatory authority over noise pollution," the spokesman said.

Canadian authorities have also hoped the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency would investigate. But a spokesman for the EPA said it doesn't have the authority to assist. If U.S. officials don't help find a solution, "there will be a lot of upset people," said Brian Masse, a Canadian New Democratic Party member of parliament, whose Windsor constituency sits across the river from Zug Island. Studying the hum, much less its origin, is challenging. It is difficult to capture the mainly nocturnal sound on tape, since it doesn't hum all the time. During a recent visit to Windsor by a Wall Street Journal reporter, Windsor resident Gary Grosse played several recordings he said came from the noise, which modulated from metallic grating to a pulsing beat. On a visit to the area around Zug Island, a fainter version of similar sounds was audible. But Americans nearby said they still can't hear it. Fishing under the shadow of some of the large mounds of coal that fringe Zug Island, Samson Jenkins says that in 20 trips here he has never heard a noise like that described in Windsor. "And they say they can hear it all the way in Canada?" said the 45-year-old maintenance worker. "No way." Nearby, an industrial chimney belched out a twist of sulfurous-smelling smoke. Mr. Jenkins joked the only noise pollution he has heard of late is Canadian singer Celine Dion. In Windsor, nobody's laughing. In January 2011, Sonya Skillings's nocturnal baby-feeding sessions were disturbed by what she said sounded like an underground subway beneath the house. Over a year on, it has become so loud sometimes she worries the windows will blow out. "I just want to be in my rocking chair with my baby asleep on top of me," she said. But "all I can hear is 'vrump, vrump, vrump.' " -

UNEXPLAINED SOUNDS AND FLASHES SPARK RUMORS IN ROSLINDALE, BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS?!

Roslindale may soon be called Roswell-lindale after a series of unexplained sounds and flashes of light were witnessed over the weekend.

Both Friday and Sunday, around the same times, residents reported hearing "booms" in the area of Zeller Street near the Fallon Field. Some residents said the sound wasn't consistent with the noises made by fireworks during a July 4 celebration. The mysterious blasts were reportedly heard from Dorchester Fields to Jamaica Plain, but no one had an answer for the strange phenomenon. Locals reported that police responded to the scene, but found nothing. Todd Johnson, who has lived in Roslindale for the past year, said the sound startled him and his wife. "It wasn't like a gunshot, it was louder and deeper than that," said Johnson, who had his television on the first time he heard the strange noise. "It was like a cannon going off." While others reported seeing a flash following the boom, Johnson said he only heard the loud noise, on both Friday and Sunday night around the same time. "It's really weird; you'd think there would be some explanation or something," said Johnson. "With fireworks, there would be some smoke or the smell of sulfur -- but I don't think any of the neighbors heard anything about that kind of stuff."

On UniversalHub.com, people living nearby joked about the boom being caused by characters from the TV show "Lost" going back to the island, or a possible real-life "Fringe" scenario unfolding in the Hub's backyard. Residents in other parts of the country have experienced similar strange noises with no apparent cause in recent months. In Wisconsin, people called police after they heard thunder-like "booms" and "bams" that officials could not immediately explain. A 15-minute video on YouTube called "Mysterious Booms All Over U.S. Not Just Wisconsin Jolting People To The Bone," claims it's a conspiracy. In the video, a person says they have been exploring strange sounds for the past two years, and reports of "loud, jolting booms" all around the country have increased.

Have any of you watched military jets fly at 20,000 feet? You really can't. It's pretty close to impossible. My grandparents actually own land underneath military airspace. Nine times out of ten, you will hear they jets and never see them. An aircraft is considered "supersonic" at Mach 1.4 (476.406m/s) when the conical pressure wave ins behind the object. Let's set up a hypothetical.

A plane is flying at Mach 1.4 (466.406m/s) at 6096 m (20,000 feet). When will you hear the sound?

So if you are standing at sea level in controlled circumstances, dividing the speed of sound by the distance away you are (340.29m/s)/6096m we get about .05582s. Which means that by the time you actually hear the noise, at Mach 1.4, the jet is 26.6 meters away from a spot directly above you. If you were expecting this, you may see the jet if you happened to be looking up. Factor in the fact that nobody who hears these sounds was expecting it and probably was not looking at the sky, plus the actual size that a (blue) military jet appears at 20,000 feet against the (also blue) sky (if there are clouds, you wont see it!) and your chances are pretty slim. Most people, upon hearing a loud unexpected noise will also be shocked, so thier first instinct would probably be to take cover, not look at the sky. Plus, a metal jet in the sky could explain the wierd flashes some people report seeing. Keep in mind that sound is a compression wave which means that it travels slower higher up and faster closer to the gorund so the actual time would be altered depending on the temperature, air content and atmoshperic pressure. These things were not taken into account in the equations. This is also assuming that the jet is moving at a low supersonic speed. Most jets can exceed Mach 2 these days and who knows what experimental aircraft exsist out there?

MYSTERIOUS BOOM SHAKES BUILDINGS AND FRIGHTEN RESIDENTS IN CHANNEL ISLANDS?!

An investigation has been launched into the cause of a mysterious boom which shook buildings across the Channel Islands on Saturday afternoon.

Hundreds of Islanders reported hearing a loud bang – similar to a sonic boom – at 1.04 pm. The boom was so loud it rattled doors and windows from Gorey to St Ouen and even measured on the Island’s seismograph in St Aubin.

But despite speculation that the noise was caused by a military jet travelling faster than the speed of sound, Jersey Airport has confirmed that no aircraft capable of causing such a noise was in the Island’s airspace at the time. And Jersey Met Office has confirmed that it is unlikely that any meteorological phenomenon could have caused the noise.

There doesn't need to be anything confirmed. It's called stealth. And the government. If you are waiting for the truth you will be waiting a very long time. Try looking at my expalination. May shed some light on what you keep posting about.

More videos of unexplained "apocalypse sounds" roaring out of nowhere

Earlier this year, dozens of reports were rolling in from all over the world about incredibly loud sounds like airplane engines coming out of the sky with no explanation. Some call them "apocalypse sounds," and others "Earth sounds." Either way, when you hear them, they are downright scary.

MYSTERIOUS BOOMS AND VIOLENT SHAKING FRIGHTENS RESIDENTS IN WEST MICHIGAN?!

People are buzzing over what could have possibly caused a loud boom and violent shaking last night and this morning throughout West Michigan.

The reports came in from people in Calhoun, Branch and Kalamazoo Counties. People from all over say they felt and heard it, but Newschannel Three has only heard of one case of actual damage happening during the same time. John Nieuwenhuis, who lives in Oshtemo, says that he felt and heard the explosion, which shook his entire house. "Where the two trees are parallel and something completely scrapped both trees off at the same height and laid them to the west," said Nieuwenhuis.

Nieuwenhuis called the fire department but after extensively searching, they couldn't find the source of an explosion. "I've never seen anything like this, we cut down trees, we log trees and what could have taken this down I have no idea," said Nieuwenhuis. Newschannel Three tried to search into what might have caused the explosions but, it was a clear night and there was no earthquake activity reported anywhere in the Midwest. Air Traffic Control in Kalamazoo says no planes were in the area that might have broken the sound barrier.

MYSTERY SOUND IN UPPER GWYNEDD, PUZZLES RESIDENTS?!

Heidi Lucas says she is not sure when she started hearing the sounds. At first she would notice it at night, then quickly disregard it. Last June, Lucas says the noise struck her as becoming more invasive. So she started keeping records of when it was audible. “It started to become persistent and consistent,” said Lucas, who lives in the 600 block of Park Road in the West Point Village, Her house is about three roads away from Merck & Co. Inc.’s West Point plant. On April 17, Lucas and her husband, Tim, appeared at the Upper Gwynedd Township Board of Commissioners workshop meeting to discuss the situation.

Exiting the township building at 1 Parkside Place, Lucas said she noticed the same sound, which she described as a loud roar with a mechanical vibration. “The sound permeates the village,” she said. Lucas said the noise, which reminds her of a jet engine or a large power washing system, has led her to drive through the township several times during the night searching for the source. Following eight months of contact with state Rep. Kate Harper, R-63rd District, as well as individual meetings with township and Merck officials, Lucas called her appearance at the commissioners meeting a last resort. She struck a conciliatory tone with the elected officials, asking them to help find the source of the noise. “We’ve lived here for more than 30 years,” she said during the meeting. “We’ve had no need to complain about anything.”

According to Lucas, neighbors have expressed similar complaints during casual conversation. She said another told her in an e-mail that sound has been an annoyance for two years. “Two other people said ‘why bother saying anything at all,’” Lucas said last week. A municipal ordinance permits sounds not to exceed 65 decibels during the day and 60 decibels at night, according to township Manager Len Perrone. Multiple sound studies conducted by Merck at the intersection of West Point Pike at Jones Avenue — the location identified by the couple as the source of the sound — have delivered readings below the township’s decibel requirements, according to company spokesperson Colleen Lange. In May, the Board of Commissioners voted to approve a sound study of five locations in the township. The municipality’s sound engineer is currently collecting samples, according to Commissioner Jim Santi. He said the firm GAI Consultants will be paid $4,000 to complete the work. According to Santi, three of the locations will be on Merck property, one at the industrial park on Jones Avenue and one near residental properties on Park Avenue. No one has confirmed Merck’s manufacturing plant as the source of the sound, according to Lucas. “I would like for someone to try to help us work this out,” she said.

Possible Meteor Grounds Fire Operations In Colorado

(AP) -- Authorities grounded firefighting aircraft battling an out-of-control blaze scorching central Colorado on Wednesday, reacting with caution to witness reports of meteor sightings.

The temporary move came amid several reported sky sightings near the fire burning 1,100 acres, or nearly 2 square miles, west of Colorado Springs.

Chaffee County Sheriff W. Peter Palmer said his office received multiple reports, including one person who thought a meteorite might have landed in a wooded area north of Buena Vista. Palmer said officials could not confirm that report.

Meanwhile, the crew of a heavy air tanker spotted something while making a slurry run on the blaze, said Steve Segin, a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.

"They weren't sure what it was," Segin said, confirming the report of a possible meteor shower.

"LOUD, FRIGHTENING, THUNDER AND MYSTERIOUS" BOOMS HEARD ACROSS 7 AMERICAN STATES WITHIN 24 HOURS?!

The following report constitutes the latest episode in the ongoing anomalies of mysterious loud booms heard across the world. These news items come from seven different states in America during a 24-hour time span.

December 4th, 2012 - Mysterious Loud Noise Baffles Residents and Police in Alabama.

At approximately midnight around Gentilly Mobile Home Park, a mysterious loud bang was heard. Phone calls to The Plainsman office suggested that the bang was heard over a far larger radius than Gentilly Park. Residents around the area do not seem to believe the sound was a gunshot or fireworks, as the sound was described as far too loud. Capt. Tom Stofer of the Auburn Police Department said the department received a call about the noise, but after sending officers out to the area could not find a source or evidence of damage. "We were really never able to indicate where the sound came from," Stofer said. "As far as we know, nothing was reported afterward as being damaged." Stofer could not offer any possibilities of what caused the sound. "The source of the noise or sound is really unknown at this time," Stofer said. December 4th, 2012 - "Loudest Thunder In The World" Explosion Heard In Rhode Island.

While authorities still do not know the source, residents are sticking to their story saying they heard a large explosion coming from Narragansett Bay Monday night. Reports of the phantom boom kept crews busy in both Barrington and Warwick after residents reported hearing the strange disruption around 11:30 p.m. “I was downstairs in my basement, I have small windows, and I was able to see a flash of light and it was basically the biggest explosion I’ve ever heard in my whole life,” said Mark Etheridge, an eyewitness who lives near Narragansett Bay in Barrington. "It shook the windows and made my neighbors alert too. The only way to describe it was like a single loud 'boom' noise that sounded somewhat like an explosion," said an Eyewitness News viewer via ReportIt. "I thought it was the loudest thunder in the world..we all were jousted but the humm. was scary," wrote Patti Cicerone on WPRI.com's Facebook page. Several local police and fire departments investigated, even sending boats out on to the bay. But, nothing was ever found. “I’ve heard a transformer blow, but this thing was ten times that. My whole house shook,” added Etheridge. "I thought 'oh my God, it must have been a gas explosion, and somebody's house blew up," said Mary McKenna. "That's what it sounded like." According to investigators, the source of the noise remains a mystery.

December 4th, 2012 - "Frightening" Loud Booms Across Altadena, California.

Was your Tuesday night disturbed by the sounds of loud booms? It was for one Altadena resident, who told Patch via email that she heard these mystery sounds all night:
I live in NW Altadena near Lincoln & Loma Alta Dr & on last evening, Tuesday - Dec 4, 2012, I kept hearing 'loud boom' sounds every 10-15 minutes. These sounds continued all night - very frightening - I called the Sheriff's Dept to report it - I never found out what this noise was. Did anyone else hear this and do you know what it was? I know that street lights are being put up on the corner of Altadena Dr & Lincoln.
The watch commander for the Altadena Sheriff’s Station told Patch Wednesday that nothing else was reported about any loud “boom” sounds and there was no explanation for them. The most notable thing that happened Tuesday night, according to the watch commander’s report of the Altadena crime log, was a call to report a beauty salon fire in town but when fire officials showed up there was no fire to be seen.

WIDESPREAD REPORTS OF LOUD BOOMS IN CITIES ACROSS THE UNITED STATES!

Columbia County officials say that more people reported hearing mysterious booms over the last few days. Some people said the blasts were so loud that they were awakened from sleep. Local experts still don't know what the cause is, but now the reports aren't limited to just Columbia County. Early this week, reports starting flooding into the Columbia County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) about loud booms in the area. "Appling, Harlem is the typical area we are looking at here. Of loud booms, rumbling.

Now we're hearing about pictures being moved on walls," says Pam Tucker, who is the director of the Columbia County EMA A man who lives on Louisville Road, near Grovetown, says he also heard the mysterious booms. He wouldn't speak to us on camera, but he told us the blast shook his house early Tuesday morning. He says when he walked outside, his driveway had new cracks in it. Since he lives near a rock quarry, he figured that's what it was. "We have already checked and our seismologist says that there is no activity on any of our equipment, as far as earthquakes. We've already called all the rock quarries, there was no blasting during any of those times," says Tucker. Friday afternoon, Tucker says she may have found a lead on what the cause of the booms could be.

In a YouTube video, people are shooting at a device called an Earth Shaker. It's full of gun powder and when it explodes, it's apparently powerful enough to shake the ground. But this week there have also been other reports of loud booms in other cities, some in Arizona, Rhode Island, Alabama, and Texas. Could there be another explanation? Tucker says, "I'm concerned because we do have a lot of credible people who are telling me these things. Law enforcement, fire, county employees, citizens, all of who are credible because they are people I know, people who go through our training. You don't have clusters of people that are all telling you the same thing and it's not happening. Something is making those loud booms, what it is, I don't know." Several theories are popping up about methane gas pockets exploding underground, military testing, and the fact that we are a few weeks away from the end of the Mayan calendar. We were contacted Friday morning from a newspaper reporter in central Arizona who saw Thursday's posting about the Columbia County story on WJBF.com. The reporter tells us there were similar occurrances there during the same timeframe as the occurrances in Columbia County.

VERY LOUD BOOMS & HOUSES SHAKING REPORTED IN OKLAHOMA, SOUTH CAROLINA AND ALASKA?!

Residents of Red Bank in Lexington County appear to have gotten a loud awakening Thursday morning as multiple reports indicate a loud booming noise in the area. WIS News 10 viewers poured onto our Facebook page this morning to report the sound. "What was the horrific boom in the Redbank area," asked Lisa Russell Fields.

Source Of Loud Boom In Red Bank Remains A Mystery.

"People are saying it sounded like a plane crash or explosion." "I also heard the "big boom" this morning. So did a lot of other people, it sounds like a close cannon or something and will shake the whole building/house," said Jennifer Lee Stokes Kleine. "Does anyone have a concrete explanation for the loud boom that shook houses in Lexington County around the Redbank/YMCA/Old Barnwell Road area this morning around 8:30 a.m.," said Mary Frances Henry Bell. So, what was it? The Lexington County Sheriff's Department doesn't know either. "Law enforcement officers and public safety personnel have been unable so far to determine the source of the noise," said Sheriff's Department spokesman Maj. John Allard. "No explosions have been reported." A similarly loud explosive noise happened last year in the South Congaree portion of Lexington County. Residents reported then being woken up to the boom around 8 a.m. on a Sunday. Seismographs at the University of South Carolina even measured something in the area. However, there was never any cause determined for that loud noise either.

Southcentral Authorities Silent On Cause Of Booming Noise.

Southcentral Alaska authorities didn’t have any immediate cause for a loud booming noise heard Thursday night and reported by Channel 2 viewers, but seemed to rule out sonic booms from aircraft in responses Friday. Reports of the sounds were posted on Channel 2’s Facebook page Thursday evening by people ranging from Eagle River to the Mat-Su Valley. Some reports placed the phenomenon between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursday, with Channel 2's Late Edition airing a brief update on the reports. Viewers' descriptions of the sound varied, but those who heard it generally agreed that it was a strong and persistent noise. “I live in Peters Creek and I heard several loud noises outside and then muted the television,” Channel 2 viewer Rachel Lee wrote. “After about a minute of silence, there was a rumble and my chandelier started to shake. I thought it might have been an earthquake but I looked online and there weren't any listed at that time; it was 8:05 p.m.” “About the only thing I can compare it to is someone going down a dirt road really fast,” viewer Deb Spaulding wrote. “(I)t was that sort of rumble.” “I was in the garage and I heard it. It (lasted) for a while,” wrote viewer Michelle Thomas Hanks. “At first I thought it was the wind until I stepped outside… My (neighbor’s kids) looked for what was making that loud noise and they could not see anything just kept hearing the loud noise.” John Pennell, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson’s chief of media operations, says the base wasn’t flying any of its supersonic fighter jets capable of causing sonic booms Thursday night, with only subsonic C-17 Globemaster III transports flying until 9:30 p.m.

“Although they are loud, I don’t think anybody’s going to mistake them for a sonic boom,” Pennell said. Val Jokela, a Federal Aviation Administration community-affairs representative in Anchorage, says the FAA’s regional operations center received no noise complaints overnight. Law enforcement agencies were similarly stymied by the reports, with Anchorage Police Department spokesperson Dani Myren saying no noise complaints were listed for Thursday or Friday. Dispatchers on duty overnight didn’t relay any reports of the booms to the next shift, which came on duty at 7 a.m. Alaska State Troopers spokesperson Megan Peters says troopers also had no noise complaints from the region, with AST dispatchers also not relaying any updates during a 6 a.m. shift change. “There wasn’t anything there big enough for them to pass on or be told about,” Peters said. The Alaska Volcano Observatory had no reports Friday on the noise itself or any volcanic activity that may have caused it. The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center’s latest listed earthquake was a magnitude 4.6 temblor on Dec. 24, centered 40 miles northwest of Valdez. The National Weather Service forecast office in Anchorage also didn’t have any possible causes, saying there was some shower activity in the area Thursday but nothing more severe in terms of weather conditions. With no immediate answers on the matter Lee, the Peters Creek viewer, echoed the confusion of many people about the source of the noise. “It's strange no one knows what caused it,” Lee wrote.

EVEN MORE MYSTERY BOOMS REPORTED IN UTAH, CALIFORNIA?!

They showed up this week in Oklahoma, were then recorded in Massachusetts, and one reader even reported them in Indiana, but it seems that the "Mystery Booms" are still going strong with new reports coming out of the West Coast.

The first new set of strange explosions were heard in Weber County, Utah last night around 9:00 PM, prompting hundreds of concerned citizens to phone the local authorities. Interestingly enough, when Fox 13 News rang up the University of Utah to check in with the Seismograph department, they claimed that while there were no earthquakes to speak of, they did pick up some unidentified "sonic activity" around the time the booms were reported.

One resident believed that the noises were related to aircraft:
Sonic booms. They're not supposed to break the sound barrier of the continental U.S., but they did so. I know they're doing some night training over the West Desert because I saw a string of tracers being fired high in the sky tonight, about 10 or 11 o'clock. Way out west of Skull Valley.

The local Hill Airforce base, on the other hand, claims that they had no aircraft in the air after 6:00PM. Likewise, the National Guard stated that had no weapons training that day, while the ATF told reporters that there were not rocket tests that day either. Hrmm..

MYSTERIOUS "EXPLOSION" SOUND, HEARD FOR AT LEAST THE LAST THREE MONTHS IN MONTAUK, NEW YORK?

Police are investigating a mysterious exploding sound that has been occurring intermittently in Montauk for months. Investigators believe someone is setting off a large mortar fireworks, but they have no arrests have been made since officially beginning an investigation in October.

he explosions, about a half-dozen or so, mainly occur in the evening, on weekends, sporadically, and only once on any given day. The most recent sound was reported on Sunday, police said. They are reported being heard in various areas around the hamlet, making it that much more difficult to pinpoint who is behind them. They've mainly been coming from around the golf course and Second House, according to East Hampton Town Police Chief Ed Ecker, who lives in Montauk and heard the sound for himself two weeks ago. He described it as "a whizzing noise" when it's going up in the air, and then "a big bang." He said, "It sounds just like big fireworks that you would use at Fourth of July." Officers have observed a flash of light in the sky, coupled with a big bang. Some residents have said they sound like utility transformers exploding.

Anecdotally, some residents tell East Hampton Patch the sounds rattle windows and shake the ground. Lt. Chris Hatch, the Montauk precinct commander, said it has been difficult to develop information, as people haven't reported them to police right away. Some residents in Montauk report that the explosions have been happening for much longer than three months. Hatch said it is difficult to say since some cases may have been logged differently, such as gunshots from hunters or transformer explosions. Plus, without any location, "The evidence is gone before its started," he said. Officers have canvassed neighborhoods. "We've been chasing this for three months now," he said. Hatch said they've found no damage - no burn marks in the streets, no burnt mailboxes or garbage cans. "My concern is that someone is going to have an accident with the fireworks, or they are going to land on a house," he said. Rumors that someone is setting off a bomb or trying to make a bomb have not been substantiated, Hatch said. "All indications right now are that these are commercially prepared fireworks."

UNEXPLAINED LOUD "BOOMS" HEARD OVER KENTUCKY AND INDIANA?!

For some time now, people have reported strange sounds and booms, right across the USA. The latest incident happened in Indiana and Kentucky, and no one knows what caused it. According to 14 News, the Vanderburgh Sheriff said that it happened near Green River and Lynch on Monday, and that they had received several calls about the strange boom sound.

The sheriff said that crews had investigated but it is still unknown what caused the loud sound. Resident Stacy Lowery said that "The sound was like a war bomb." Lowery said she had just put her children to bed and was relaxing on the couch when she heard the sound. "A huge explosion, like definitely knew it wasn't a firecracker going off. I've never heard anything like it, very disturbing," Lowery said. Apparently she was not the only one to hear it and the Evansville Dispatch also received several calls on Monday night between 9.30 and 11.00. Sheriff Eric Williams told 14 News, "We obviously dispatched cars. I believe the EFD dispatched crews, the EPD. At the end of the day, we're not able to find anything." "It had to be something a little bit different than the typical explosion," he added. Some people thought it might be an earthquake, but USGS had no reports of any activity in the area.

14News interviewed USI Professor of Geology, Paul Doss who has been watching the seismometer just lately. "Earthquake energy is an acoustic energy, but it would not be transmitted out of the crust and into the atmosphere. When I look over the last few days, at these times, nothing, nothing," Doss said. Others thought it might be from a nearby mine, but Vigo, who are opening a mine in the area, said that their permit does not allow blasting between dusk and dawn. Officials checked with the Air Force, but Lt. Mark Weaver of the Air Guard in Ft. Wayne said, "We didn't have any training events. The State of Indiana and the Air Guard, they have A10s based out of Ft. Wayne and they're not capable of executing that type of activity." Yet others thought that maybe a meteorite had come in to land. However, Professor Jeff Braun told 14 News in the video above that there is a lack of visible evidence to prove this theory. "Meteors can cause sonic booms when they come in, but almost always they're accompanied by a visible fireball," he said. Sheriff Williams said, "We're going to write it off as the unexplained at this point until somebody gives us an explanation." And so unexplained sounds continue all over the country, and no one knows why. "At this point, nobody seems to know. The geologists say it's not in the ground, the Air Force says it's not in the air, the astronomers say it's not from space, so we're running out of options," Braun said.

LOUD UNEXPLAINED BOOM HEARD BY RESIDENTS OF ALICE, TEXAS!

A suspicious loud noise or explosion was heard about 10:30 p.m. Saturday by residents in Alice, but law enforcement officials weren't able to pinpoint the source.

Some reports said it came from the southside area and others said it was near the Alice airport. But sources so far have not located anything.

Acting Police Chief Albert Martinez said the department received about 15 calls that night about the boom, but were unable to locate anything. He added that a sonic boom was a strong possibility.
